The Oath of Office, What Does It Even Mean?

There is a commentary piece in the American Thinker today that caught my eye. It was written by Christian Vezilj and titled "The Oath Must Come First." I highly recommend that everybody read it. It poses some great questions.

The author cites a speech from Zohran Mamdani where he said that "I am a Muslim, and I refuse to apologize for it." And that raises the question, will he serve as an American citizen of New York, serving all New Yorkers? Or will he serve as a Muslim first, serving religious, cultural, and ideological convictions as opposed to the constitutional framework he is going to swear to uphold? Or will he serve as a communist, with the goal of destroying the framework of the financial capitol of the country?

Fair questions to ask, and we will see how it plays out. But it begs another question, how does it play out 240 miles to the southwest, in Washington, DC? How many of our representatives honor their oath of office and serve the nation with fidelity to the constitution? How many representatives serve to enrich themselves first? How many have a bloodlust for power with no regard for to the nation of those they were elected to serve? Do they serve to permanently change the constitutional framework they swore to uphold, to destroy as opposed to build?

This week Nancy Pelosi announced her intention to step down from her congressional seat that she has held for 38 years and counting. Nancy Pelosi led the house democrats from 2002 to 2023. She was elected by her party as House Speaker twice, from 2007-2011 and again from 2019-2023.

Let's look at some of Pelosi's "accomplishments." First, as speaker, she lost the House majority twice. Of all the house speakers, the deficit increased the most under her leadership, and it is not really close. She impeached President Trump twice, also the most for any speaker ever. As you know, both impeachments led to acquittal in the senate.

Among the many boondoggles that Pelosi championed and passed were Obamacare, which raised the cost of health insurance by 74% and cost the taxpayers over $1.6 trillion; the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act, which increased compliance costs of banking, securities, and mortgages to draconian levels, and cost the taxpayers about $750 billion; the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, an $800 billion debacle; Obama's tax act of 2010, which cost about $900 billion; Biden's American Rescue Plan of 2021, which cost $1.9 trillion; Biden's Infrastructure Bill, which cost the taxpayers $1.2 trillion; Biden's American Jobs and Families Act, which cost taxpayers $4 trillion; the CHIPS Act, which cost a paltry (by Pelosi standards) $200 billion; and the so called Inflation Reduction Act, which increased taxes by $740 billion and increased spending by about $900 billion.

And that's not all... Pelosi did not stand for debate or conflicting opinions in her party. You either voted with her and kept your mouth shut, or she cut you off and recruited and funded primary opposition to you. Insider trading, which will land you and me in federal prison- if you don't believe me just ask Martha Stewart- has been very good to Nancy Pelosi, as her net worth has increased by over $400 million since she took her oath of office.

She tore up Trump's State of the Union speech in 2020, which is a criminal act, and dishonored herself, her office, the institution of the State of the Union and congress, and created an international spectacle. Pelosi flew the Ukrainian flag on the floor of the People's House, again dishonoring herself, the institution of congress, and our nation. Pelosi neglected President Trump's calls for troops on January 6, allowed a protest to become a riot where two US citizens were killed, blamed everybody but herself, then impeached Trump for legally and lawfully contesting a fraudulent election. When asked about the riots protesting the Trump border policy, she said, "I just don't even know why there aren't uprisings all over the country, maybe there will be."

Her words towards Trump and republicans were never meant to unite, to reconcile, to compromise. They were only meant to demonize and divide. Her thirst for money was only surpassed by her insatiable thirst for power, and she didn't care who she destroyed to get what she wanted. In addition to the damage she did as a politician to the laws and economy of this country, she did just as much damage to our civics and citizenship. She represents the absolute of our body politic. Yet the media and democrats continue to honor the dishonorable, to address her as Speaker Emeritus, which is an insult to the institution and every other person who has served in that position, and rewrite and redefine her legacy from one of destruction to one of historic achievement.

Our nation and our government will be better off without Nancy Pelosi, who is a walking, talking answer to the question posed earlier about the Oath of Office. For her, the Oath never mattered, only the thirst for raw power, wealth, and a manufactured false legacy. She was a champion of a government of the powerful for the powerful, not of the people and for the people. Her legacy is not one of service, not one of a better, more united nation. Her legacy within her party is historic, but hardly beneficial. The real legacy of Nancy Pelosi is deficits, bigger government, a poisoned narrative, and a party going forward led by the likes of AOC, Momdani, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Aryana Pressley, Hakeem Jeffries, and the rest of the socialists and communists who are poised to take over for her.

The oath doesn't matter, it never mattered. History is moving on without her. Her legacy is not one of statesmanship, not of civil discourse, not one of class, not of service. Instead, her legacy will be the ruination of our nation, of dearth and division, of partisanship and power, and most of all the advent of democratic socialism, where everything is free.... except for you.
