Independence Day

Tomorrow is July 4, the 250th birthday of the greatest nation the world has ever known, the United States of America. I know tomorrow as Independence Day, when we give thanks for all our blessings as a nation and honor those who, through divine inspiration, made the grand experiment that is our nation possible.

Others celebrate the Fourth of July, as if it was just another day on the calendar, a day to get off work without lying about it, air made up grievances, denigrate our great nation, and just have another miserable day in their miserable lives.

Such is the case in San Diego County, California. They are having a Fourth of July celebration tomorrow, not an Independence Day celebration, and here is the itinerary, as it was passed in the county commission meeting in February.

Starting at 5pm: Media statements. Because the media always has to have the first word, like for example the Washington Post, who actually published an article yesterday clutching their pearls that the fireworks display at the National Mall tomorrow will cause smoke which is pollution. The same media that told us Joe Biden was lucid, that the COVID vaccine prevented transmission of the disease, that the 2020 election was completely above board, and January 6, 2021 was an insurrection.

5:45pm: Welcoming and land acknowledgement. This is perfect. Long lost Indian populations' descendants bless supposedly stolen land that those same county commissioners, who no doubt live in luxury homes or gated communities designed to keep those poor oppressed "natives" out, aren't giving up to the people they supposedly stole it from. Hypocrites.

6:10pm: Tribal invocation. No doubt a prayer to some pagan witch doctor or idol instead of a prayer to God almighty. Interestingly enough, one of the popular lies of the left is that the nation wasn't founded on Christian principles, despite the fact that John Adams, one of the chief architects of the constitution, wrote to Thomas Jefferson on June 28, 1813 that the Revolution was unified by the great principles of Christianity and the general principles of English and American liberty, viewing those foundational values as eternal, immutable, and inseparable from civil governance. The Declaration of Independence states that we are "endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights."

6:20: National and Black National Anthem. There is only one National Anthem, written by Francis Scott Key in 1814, and made the official national anthem on March 3, 1931, when President Hoover signed the congressional bill decreeing such. There is no black nation and there is no black national anthem. There is only one nation, the United States of America, and only one national anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner."

6:35: Local Tribal Community, Latino Community, Asian American-American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, LGBTQIA+, and Black and African American stories. Everything but American stories. President Theodore Roosevelt said, "Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room but for one flag, the American flag. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is loyalty to the American people." "There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. Americanism is a matter of the spirit and of the soul. Our allegiance must be purely to the United States. We must unsparingly condemn any man who holds any other allegiance."

9:05: Fireworks.

I read a great thesis by Rick Tyler of the Leadership Institute Advanced School of Politics that touched on several of the points I'm about to make so I want to credit him here.

The self-government and unity that We The People chose in 1776 is the hardest form of government. Dictatorship, Monarchy, Oligarchy, Technocracy, are all easier. They require no thought, no effort, no passion, no action. All they require is adherence, subjugation, and eventually some form of slavery.

Self-government requires citizens who pay attention, candidates who make arguments, activists who persuade, journalists who challenge, voters who choose, and losers who accept defeat without burning down the system. It requires a people mature, reasonable, and loyal enough to argue fiercely while preserving the rules and core beliefs that allow the argument to continue. It relies on people who believe in freedom enough to defend and advance it.

Our country has outlasted civil war, assassinations, economic strife, riots, scandals, bad Presidents, worse Congresses, judicial, executive, and bureaucratic overreach, and every kind of corruption known to man.

The constitution has been attacked from every angle. From secession, civil war, demagoguery, and disorder, we have chosen the constitution over everything else. It has self-renewed because of our spirit, our God, and the fact that we taught our children to revere it, adhere to it, and defend it.

Liberty and the Great American Experiment does not auto-renew. Each generation must learn why freedom and the constitution matters, why God is almighty, and that our unalienable rights flow from Him. Each generation must learn Patriotism, why debate and elections matter, why being free and having self-determination is the ultimate gift passed from father to son, and why it is worth defending.

At the heart of it all is eternal diligence. It is our solemn duty to pass that torch to the next generations, and give them the knowledge, moral compass, and perspective to understand why it is worth renewing and advancing, day after day, month after month, year after year, generation after generation.

America works because We the People make it work, and have for 250 years. Like Senator Mike Lee said, "Isn't it great that the founders didn't say, 'Well, we don't have 60 votes, so let's recess and move on to something else?'" Teddy Roosevelt warned us about the likes of John Thune and the swamp when he said, "Freedom is not a gift that lasts long in the hands of cowards."

Will Lincoln's question at Gettysburg remain our standard for the next 250 years? That this nation, under God, have a new birth of freedom, and shall the government of, by, and for the people, not perish from this earth?

With God's blessings, our love of country, patriotism, hard work, sacrifice, and faith, the answer is yes, it will.
