I'm From The Government And I'm Here To Help

I'm from the government and I'm here to help," the nine most terrifying words in the English language according to Ronald Reagan, and if you are a smart, you know he was right. Unfortunately, too many of our fellow citizens believe that statement and even depend on it, much to their peril.

If there is one thing we should have learned from the debacle that was the Covid-19 pandemic, is that the government does not serve the interests of those who are governed. Rather, government serves its own interests, and we have long since strayed from the founding fathers' original intent of the government being as small and as local as possible, of serving at the consent of the governed, and providing only the most basic services, like providing a national defense, coordinating foreign policy and commerce, and most importantly, the protection of liberty.

Nope, our federal government has grown to encompass 24% of our GDP, and the taxes it collects amounts to about 17%. Out of that 24%, so-called entitlement spending comprises 60%, and that is a large part of the problem. Thomas Jefferson said, "The course of history has shown that as government grows, liberty decreases." Dang straight...

The Land of the Free has become the Land of the Free Ride for far too many people, and I'm not talking solely about the 40 million people on SNAP- 1 out of every 8 people in this country, which is ludicrous- I'm talking about federal employees, contractors, the benefactors of governmental largess, and particularly the bureaucrats and politicians.

The Washington, DC metropolitan statistical area, or MSA, has the highest per capita personal income in the nation, a whopping 15% higher than any other MSA. Do you think those at the top of the income chain serve the people, or do they serve the government that has given them their riches?

This time last year western North Carolina was ravaged by flood, and you may remember the story of Marn'i Washington, who was the FEMA supervisor who told her team to avoid homes displaying Trump signs. You think she was there to help?

How about Joe Biden and congressional democrats? They passed an additional $4.7 trillion in spending in 2021 & 2022, which caused inflation to rise a cumulative 21.2% over the next 3 years. How much of that $4.7 trillion did you see? Probably zero to none is my guess, but I guarantee you saw all of that 21.2% inflation. Were they there to help?

Barack Obama's net worth grew by $70 million since he was elected president. Nancy Pelosi's net worth grew by over $400 million since she was elected to congress. Those are just a couple of the most egregious examples. The top 100 congressional representatives saw their net worth increase by an average of 114% per year, per Ballotpedia. The average representative on Capitol Hill saw their net worth grow on an average of 7 times as fast as the 95th percentile of American citizens. Think they are here to help?

The democrats who have shut down the federal government aren't satisfied with a continuing resolution that increases the deficit by $1.8 trillion a year, which itself is a crazy amount. Nope, they want an additional $1.5 trillion, and for what? To give free health care to illegal aliens, to subsidize the ridiculous health care industry inflation that has outpaced the overall rate of inflation by 26% since it was enacted in March 2010, and to keep the flow of money going to the NGO's that consists of their donors, volunteers, and benefactors; and is a large integral part of that ridiculous net worth increase we covered earlier. Does that sound like they are here to help?

At its most basic level, the government shutdown is about who has the power in Washington, the republicans or the democrats. But even more than that, it is about whether elections matter, because in the last election, when the nation spoke at the ballot box and elected Trump and the GOP to majorities in both houses, we the American people did not vote for free health care to illegal aliens, we didn't vote for an additional $1.5 trillion in deficit spending, we didn't vote for a trainwreck of a health insurance system, and we sure as heck didn't vote to make politicians and their benefactors even richer.

The democrats on Capitol Hill would rather tear down the entire system that they in large part created rather than serve the will of the people. They are willing to damage you, the citizens of this great nation, and our economy, for nothing more than raw political power, even though you didn't vote for it. "I'm from the government and I'm here to help." Yeah, right.

And as for the 12.5% of the population who are receiving SNAP benefits, which is scandalous in and of itself, who think the government is here to help, come tomorrow they're going to learn the hard way about the wisdom of former Indiana Governor Harold Hanley, who said, "A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take away everything you have.
