History is our greatest teacher, one that we often ignore because we think, foolishly, that because of our technological advancements and recency bias we are smarter than our ancestors. Time and again that has been proven wrong.Â
The democrats forgot history, particularly the history of ancient Rome, and crossed the rubicon yesterday, and like Rome when Caeser crossed the rubicon there likely is no going back, and there will be consequences. Hopefully we don't end up like Rome.
Does the left have any interest in a constitutional republic or a democracy? Or is the goal absolute power. Using the levers of power to crush political opposition. Weaponizing the law.
The rule of law, equal justice, juris prudence, fairness, none of it matters. They've seized all of our institutions, including the courts. How low will they stoop in their quest for unfettered, complete control?Â
The democrat who was Speaker of the House just 90 days ago tweeted about President Trump, "No one is above the law, and everyone has the right to a trial to prove their innocence." She doesn't believe in the most fundamental tenet of our jurisprudence, the presumption of innocence. That speaks volumes, and it is endemic.
So what is the GOP going to do about it? Release a stongly worded statement? Have a hearing? Go on Fox News and whine? Will they really fight back? Or just let Trump twist in the wind, ignorant to the fact that their heads will soon be on the chopping block too. Do they have the guts to impeach Biden over Chinese and Ukraine money laundering? Wray and Garland over the weaponization of the FBI and DOJ? Mayorkis over the southern border? Defund the FBI, DOJ, Homeland Security? Â
Perhaps the left would be wise to heed the words of President Ford, who said when he pardoned President Nixon, "The facts, as I see them, are that a former President of the United States, instead of enjoying equal treatment with any other citizen accused of violating the law, would be cruelly and excessively penalized either in preserving the presumption of his innocence or in obtaining a speedy determination of his guilt in order to repay a legal debt to society. During this long period of delay and potential litigation, ugly passions would again be aroused. And our people would again be polarized in their opinions. And the credibility of our free institutions of government would again be challenged at home and abroad."
That wisdom probably cost Ford the presidency, but it preserved the republic. Is there anybody on the left side of the aisle, particularly Joe Biden, as wise as Ford? Or is the thirst for power all encompassing?Â
The scales of justice have been permanently tilted. Lady Liberty weeps. All because one man dared to Make America Great Again.Â
