What Happened to Morality and Virtue (June 9th, 2023)

In 1798 John Adams wrote," Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other. Morality and virtue are the foundation of our republic and necessary for a society to be free." 


In four days the United States will cease to be a constitutional republic based on equal justice. Rather, it will be a government of men, not a government of laws, and when men are able to choose the laws they wish to enforce or follow based on political ideology and expediency, justice is no longer virtuous and blind, it is a weaponized cudgel. That is the very definition of tyranny.


Our federal government has devolved into a government by fiat, regulation, and rule, by unelected, unaccountable, and largely unknown apparatchiks of the democrat party. The role of the executive branch has changed from safeguarding the constitution to safeguarding the bureaucracy, and the bureaucracy safeguards the ideology. 


Nowhere has the change been more evident than in the department of justice, the federal law enforcement, and intelligence agencies, where laws have been ignored, other laws weaponized, and the department itself has devolved into the enforcement and prosecutorial arm not of the constitution and the people, but of the democrat statist ideology.

 

We've seen it time and again, from Waco, to Clive Bundy, to Snowden, to Assange, to Benghazi, to the Clinton e-mail server and the Clinton Foundation, to FISAgate, to Mueller, to Hunter Biden, to Viktor Shokin in Ukraine, to the January 6 defendants, culminating in a pending federal indictment against the 45th President of the United States. 


The weaponized bureaucracies and justice department have ceased protecting our freedom and prosperity and are engaged in actively taking away our liberties, culture, faith, wealth, the innocence of our children, and now our ability to elect our leaders fairly, while unconstitutionally changing election laws and selectively harassing, prosecuting, and in some cases imprisoning their political adversaries. 


James Comey hilariously spoke about a retribution presidency earlier this week, but aren't we in a retribution presidency right now, and isn't it getting exponentially worse with the advance of leftist lawfare? We as a nation have crossed a line. While we were enjoying our freedoms, liberal culture, and all the trappings of a prosperous capitalist society, the people entrusted with guarding it were busy stealing it. It went from just being a small ideological faction of a political party to a whole of government approach we find ourselves in now. 


So what can we do about it? And do we have the will? 


The founding fathers of this nation paid a bloody price to overthrow tyranny, against all odds. Afterwards, they identified it, chronicled the dangers and results of it, and in response bequeathed us the ability to fight it peacefully, through redressing grievances with our elected representatives and most importantly, at the ballot box. 


The words of the German poet Martin Niemoller come to mind when he wrote of his own early complicity in Nazism and eventual change of heart: First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out- because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out- because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the jews, and I did not speak out- because I was not a jew. Then they came for me- and there was nobody left to speak for me.


Speak up, stand up, rise up. There's no time left and nobody else left. This is the tipping point. We are the last great hope in the world for freedom. History will judge us for what we do now in the face of this tyranny, for better or worse, for eternity.
